If supporting small businesses and tradition are two things that are important to you then you need to meet April Riley of Mom’s Cakes! This gal has been making cakes almost her whole life. “Becoming a cake designer is my Mom’s fault! I’ve watched and helped her since I was a little girl.”
April’s mom, Billie took her first cake decorating class in 1972 in order to make April’s birthday cakes, then began designing wedding cakes for friends and family in the early 80’s. In 2001 April and Billie rented a booth together at David’s Bridal for customers to sample their cakes and the business grew from there!
Now with nearly 50 years of combined experience, April and Billie are ready to provide you with a moist and flavorful cake made from tried and true family recipes. Mom’s Cakes is a home-based business that has designed cakes for any occasion you can think of. They have several family recipes that are a part of their flavor selections and are open to any ideas you have to create a cake unique to you.
As far as working with April to design your perfect cake, April describes her personality as “funny, bubbly, and easy to get along with”, but says she takes cake designing very seriously. “I’m a perfectionist, I want it done right! I’m very picky about how my cakes look and if I don’t like it, I’ll do it over.” “I enjoy working with clients who have an idea of what they want and are willing to let me have some fun with the design process as well. I love taking several pictures that a bride has picked out and combining them all together to design a cake that is her very own! It’s so cool to see clients get excited about their cake design!”
When April isn’t creating lovely and delicious cakes with Billie, she’s busy being a Rockstar in a very important area, Pediatric Nursing. She also loves to camp, sing and spend time with her family.
With almost 50 years of experience, April and Billie would love to get to work designing the wedding cake of your dreams! Sit with them and look at pictures of cakes you love, then pick them apart to choose the aspects you love in order to create a cake design that truly is your own. And because it’s just the two of them, they don’t take more than a couple of cakes in one weekend – that means they dedicate quality time to your cake!
