Bet you can’t wait to start trying on Wedding Dresses!!
With all of this quarantine business, everyone is itchy to get to back to their “normal”, and if you’re a bride you’re likely ready to get back to wedding planning, and this might definitely include finding your dream wedding dress in Colorado.
Wedding Sites and Services is excited to partner with Bridal Connection, located in Longmont, Colorado. We sat down with Jacquelyn Bartels, owner of Bridal Connection and learned a little more about Jacquelyn herself, and how she came to be one of the most well-known wedding gown shops in Northern Colorado.
Jacquelyn is a self-taught, master seamstress who has been working professionally as a seamstress and designer for 15 years. She’s owned Bridal Connection for just under a year after the business has been around for over 25 years! Bridal Connection carries nearly 100 sample bridal gowns from many different designers and in addition, they have bridesmaids, mother and special occasion gowns, as well as tuxedo rentals and many accessories.
What inspired you want to be a seamstress?
I have had an interest in sewing since I was tiny. I made my first piece for my sister when I was just six and from then started creating designs for my family and friends and later on, my own children. I have done a ton of different things from costume design and custom gowns, to fashion show design and even PAPER DRESSES!
How did you learn your craft?
Well, honestly, I’m self-taught I just always went with “learn as you go”. I actually went to school for engineering, but that really does tie in in the realm of dress creation - lines, structure, details… You get it.
What’s your favorite part of the job?
I get to be part of weddings! Every.Single.One. of them is filled with such hope and joy!! How can you NOT be drawn to that!?!
How would you describe your personality?
I’m outgoing, extremely particular and late to everything! And I can chat with anyone.
On Current Trends:
The current trend in dresses is that they tend to be easier to wear. Dresses these days are less structured and flow with soft, feminine lines, whereas dresses even from a few years ago tend to be not as easy to wear due to greater structure - lots of built in corsets and boning.
What sets you apart from other vendors in your category?
I think my focus on Customer Service and my “Do-Right-By-Others” attitude. Some places seem to be more sale driven in their appointments - I’d prefer someone finds the right dress for them WHERE EVER it may be. I want you to find the right dress for YOU, if it’s with me, Awesome!, if not, go and find the right thing for you! It’s okay - No harm, no foul.
How far in advance should couples contact you to start their planning with you?
At least 6 months. If you need to order a dress and have any alterations done you want plenty of time.
What tips or advice can you give couples planning their big day?
Take a breath, make it special and don’t forget why you’re doing it! Take care of one another.
Bridal Connection is located in Longmont, Colorado and is open Monday-Sunday 10:00am-4:00pm, as well as by appointment outside of those hours.
